FRIENDS. These photos? I took them.
I KNOW, RIGHT?
Near the top of my notes app resides a short list of goals. “Get better at food photography” has many exclamation marks, signifying my frustration.
Until now, my photos have been poorly lit and poorly composed. I told myself they weren’t bad, but I was never satisfied with them. I know that to showcase how great my baking tastes, I need the visuals to be just as good.
Today, a wave of energy appeared, and I had to ride it. I recalled some large pieces of white poster paper hiding in a craft closet. They’re not in perfect condition, but that wasn’t stopping me this time. I set them up a few feet away from the biggest window in my house to form a makeshift three-sided light box.
This will work.
My youngest child showed an amazing amount of patience while I worked on manipulating light, shadows, and angles. When the precarious light box collapsed for the third time, her giggling made my irritation disappear. 4-year olds are great like that. I took her to the library afterwards, with a glimmer of pride settling in my gut.
These are the best photos I have ever taken. They are an example of what I can do.
Goal-setting is an exercise for me that causes an instant mental block. I hear, “We all have goals!” and I am immediately unsettled. I need to take this experience and run with it. My next step is turning these poster papers into an actual light box, which will make the process run more smoothly.
I’ve posted these photos on the instagram I have solely for baking posts - feel free to follow along here! The name will be changing once I think of a business name that I love. I’ll keep you posted.
I appreciate your time.
